Today after planning my routes for the day with Google Maps I noticed that some information was missing, I couldn’t see the Google Maps traffic estimates, you know the driving time estimate that Google would display based on how much traffic there was on your route. At first I though there was something wrong with my computer, then I thought that maybe there was a problem with G-Maps at the moment and that it would be fixed throughout the course of the day, the day went by and I visited G Maps one more time to check if the feature was already working again and still traffic estimates were not showing up, I came to the conclusion that Google Maps traffic estimates are gone! so I decided to do a little bit of research to find out if I was right.
Yes Google Maps has removed driving with traffic estimates, I really don’t know why Google decided to do this I really liked this feature a lot and I also used it a lot too, in fact I thought that Google’s live traffic data was better than any other traffic information service in the world. Trying to find out why Google decided to remove this feature I found a thread in the Google Maps help support forum where Google employee Daniel Mabasa explained why they decided to do this and what they are planning to do in the future.
According to Mabasa they believe that the information systems behind this feature aren’t as good as they would want them to be, so for now they have decided to remove this feature from G-Maps for a while until they come up with a better, more accurate solution that makes everyone happy, as you all know Google only cares about the user experience and their plan is to make it better for everyone. For now Google Maps traffic estimates are gone, I guess that we’ll just have to be patient and wait for a while, in the mean time if you need driving time with traffic estimates you can use your smartphone to access that information because this feature is still working for iPhone and Android versions of Google Maps.
